Abstract:

This paper examines the notion of Resilient Health Care (RHC) within the healthcare sector, emphasizing the need to learn from incidents and comprehend workplace safety. The review delineates the methodologies used to examine RHC, the factors influencing its evolution, and its conceptual framework within the existing literature. Based on the papers reviewed, all characterize RHC as possessing the ability to adjust its operations before, during, or after events to ensure the continuity of essential functions in both expected and unexpected situations. A majority of RHC research included qualitative approaches, using both direct and indirect data sources. RHC research tools were developed using known robust frameworks and are categorized into groups: integration with current safety management paradigms, foundational resilience capabilities, and performance variability. There are still questions that need to be addressed before a gold standard method for RHC research can be set up, even if RHC has been thought about, studied, and developed consistently. These include testing and evaluation of treatments aimed at addressing the overarching safety ramifications of RHC in institutional and organizational change, with the implementation of RHC assessment methodologies across diverse and multi-tiered settings.
