Abstract:
This review article provides a comprehensive and systematic analysis of regional geography schools and their position within the broader structure of geographical schools. The primary aim of this paper is to offer an in-depth examination of the history, role, and impact of these schools on the development of geography and their practical applications in urban policymaking and resource management. The methodology of this study is based on scientific principles and standard practices commonly found in ISI-indexed journals, and includes extensive searches across reputable scientific databases such as Google Scholar, Web of Science, JSTOR, and Scopus. In the first stage, articles, books, and scientific reports related to regional geography schools, from the late ۱۹th century to the present, were collected. These sources were selected based on their quality and relevance to the topic. In the next phase, regional geography schools were analyzed and compared from various perspectives, and their impact on the development of geographical theories and practical applications was explored. To conduct a more detailed analysis and investigate the practical applications of these schools, modern tools such as Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial models were employed. These tools facilitated the analysis of geographical patterns and the influence of regional geography schools on policymaking and resource management. Finally, based on the results from different schools, the paper proposes recommendations for future research and new theoretical developments in this field. The paper emphasizes that regional geography schools are effective tools for geographical analysis and sustainable development.
