Abstract:
Given that exports are introduced as one of the key factors in achieving economic growth in countries, this study examines and compares the relationship between exports and economic growth in two countries, Iran, and South Korea. For this purpose, the Autoregressive Distributed Lag model was used for estimation over the period ۱۹۷۰ to ۲۰۲۲. The results of the data description indicate that exports have a positive impact on the economic growth of both South Korea and Iran in both the short and long terms. In terms of the size of the impact, the impact of exports on economic growth in South Korea is greater than that of Iran. In addition to exports, the impact of imports, government expenditures, and domestic and foreign direct investment has been investigated, and the results show a positive impact of domestic and foreign investment and a negative impact of imports and government expenditures on the economic growth of both countries. Based on the results obtained, it is suggested that policymakers should adopt policies aimed at export promotion to reduce dependence on oil sales and diversify exports.
