Abstract:

In this paper, a comprehensive analysis of nonlinear vibration of a cable which carries a system consisting mass, spring, and damper, with constant is investigated. One end of the cable is fixed and the other, can be varied with different heights with respect to the first end. The oscillator can be accelerated by tangential component of the weight force. The governing equations of the motion are derived with regard to the mutual influence of cable movement and mass movement. Galerkin method is employed for the displacement field in conjunction with the average acceleration method in the time domain to solve the problem. The effects of damping coefficient, spring stiffness, weight, tension of cable, and velocity of oscillator, on vertical movement of mass are investigated.
