Abstract:
In this study, preparation of polypyrrole (Ppy) and its composite containing chitosan (Ch) was discussed, and their capability to removal of direct yellow 86 (DY 86) from aqueous solution was studied. Polypyrrole (Ppy) synthesized chemically in the presence of FeCl3 as an oxidant and coated on chitosan. The removal of DY 86 was investigated using Ppy, and Ppy/Ch composite, respectively. The products were investigated in terms of morphology and chemical structure with scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), respectively. Batch studies were performed to evaluate the influence of various experimental parameters like pH, adsorbent dosage and contact time. Optimum conditions for DY 86 removal were found to be pH 3, adsorbent dosage of 1 g/L, equilibrium time 90 min.
