Abstract:
An analytical study is conducted in this paper tounderstand the characteristic of sound transmissionthrough the isotropic cylindrical shell. Using aninfinitely long circular cylindrical shell subjected to aplane wave with uniform airflow in the external fluidmedium, an exact solution is obtained by solving thefirst-order shear deformation and acoustic waveequations simultaneously. Transmission losses obtainedfrom numerical solution are compared with those ofother authors. Additionally, comparison of thetransmission loss is made among classical thin shelltheory (CST) and first-order shear deformation theory(FSDT). Eventually, the numerical results are used toshow the effects of geometrical properties, incidentangle, Mach number and material properties.
