Abstract:

This paper presents a strategy, direct torque control with space vector modulation (DTC-SVM), for an induction machine based on indirect matrix converter (IMC). In indirect matrix converters, the space vector modulation (SVM) strategy provides full control of both the output voltage vector and the instantaneous input current displacement angle. The capability of the input matrix converter to generate different DC voltages is exploited in this paper. The modulation index of the input matrix converter is changed in order to obtain lower/higher DC voltage without causing over modulation. Performance of induction machine in the reduced and maximum DC voltage is studied and the results are compared with each other. When a reduced DC voltage is used, input current ripple increase slightly, but it can be overcome by a proper design of the input filter. In addition, to reduce problems with snubber circuits in rectifier bidirectional switches (such as: increasing losses, increasing volume of converter and waveform distortion), zero current commutation strategy has been used. Simulation results of the DTC-SVM system based on virtual DC voltage of IMC obtained from SIMULINK/MATLAB software shows the effectiveness of the proposed strategy.
