Abstract:
This article presents result of3D simulation of a bubble column reactor at steady and unsteady state conditions and at low gas flow rates. The simulations were based on a two-fluid model and with a k-ε model for turbulence modeling. For a 0.11 m diameter column a sieve plate gassparger that has, 19 holes of 1mm in diameter was used .carboxymethyl cellulose(CMC) aqueous solution-air system was used, CFD simulations were carried out with superficial air velocities, Ug in the range of 0.006-0.085 m/s. The appropriate Grace drag relation suggested for this simulation.Furthermore, the effects of gas velocity on hydrodynamic behavior of the column studided and direct interactions between the large and small bubble phases were ignored. Simulation results were reasonably close to the experimental data. Gas holdup was predicted reasonably well.
