Abstract:
There has always been a fine line between men and women. Gender bias has existed for decades, even after the feminist movement, and unfortunately, the belief that women are inferior to men has set society back in many areas and this belief has mostly been manifested in our language. The use of sexist language undermines the goal of a non-discriminatory, inclusive society and culture. There are simple ways to avoid using language that can offend and marginalize half the people on Earth, so writers should take care to use gender-inclusive language. Using unbiased language can be challenging because it requires an understanding of what constitutes biased language in the first place. Understanding how to use gender neutral language in a grammatically correct way, non-sexist terminology, and non-offensive terms for identifying groups of people is the right path to take. Thus authors and translators must avoid language that may intentionally or unintentionally reflect gender bias and also to keep writing gender-fair.
