An Urbanism Development Strategy for Shiraz Tourism: A SWOT Review Study

In the ever increasing challenge of the modern world, cities face a variety of issues in their development and call for professional solutions. Tourism, as one of the most beneficial trends for cities with this regard, today seeks scientific consideration on the part of specialists, among which architects and urban developers play one of the most important roles. Although cities in Iran, due to their unique capacities, have long been destinations for tourists from all over the world, scientific encounter with this issue needs to be done to keep getting the benefits for the city. To this end, this study takes Shiraz, one of the most famous cities of Iran, and the world, as a case for tourism analysis done through SWOT model. To get an overview and the most reliable of the results, data was collected from a number of previously-done SWOT studies on Shiraz tourism. As a meta-analysis, the current piece of research analyzed and synthesized the results of previous studies, and proposed the most applicable strategies from the viewpoint of urbanism to develop the city as a tourist destination. The results of the study would serve useful for all those involved in tourism and development issues of cities which have capacities to be successful tourist destinations. The strategies proposed can be used for planning tourism and city development for any city.
