Abstract:
Nucleate pool boiling heat transfer experiments were conducted on a smooth horizontal cylinder at atmospheric pressure. Water/MEG (monoethyleneglycol) binary solutions were used as the testing fluid. A high-speed digital video camera was applied to capture the dynamics of the bubble nucleation process. Bubble dynamics is the most important sub-phenomenon, which basically affects the nucleate pool boiling heat transfer coefficient. In this article, extensive new experimental data at atmospheric pressure are presented for bubble departure diameters during saturated pool boiling for Water/MEG binary solutions in various concentrations and heat fluxes. For all test fluids, experimental results show that bubble diameter increases with increasing heat flux. In addition, experimental data have shown that ,in concentrations of less than 8% MEG, the boiling heat transfer coefficient in mixtures of water/monoethyleneglycol is even higher than the boiling heat transfer coefficient of water.
