Abstract:
In this study, two different methods: hydrodistillation (HD) and Ultrasonic assist with headspace solid phase microextraction (UA-HS-SPME) have been applied, for the first time, for the extraction of essential oils of Cuminum cyminum L. from Iran. The oils obtained were analyzed by GC–MS. As a result, 16 and 20 compounds were identified through the HD and UA-HS-SPME-GC/MS methods respectively. The major component by two methods of HD and UA-HS-SPME were 2-carene-10-al (46.56%, 28.13%), cuminalin (28.13%, 9.91 %), γ-terpinene (8.23%, 21.27%), ρ-cymene (5.97%, 10.32%), and 2-β-Pinene (5.41% 17.02%), respectively. In the presence of Ultrasonic assist with headspace solid phase microextraction (UA-HS-SPME) the highest extraction efficiency was achieved with a 100 μm polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) fiber.
