Abstract:
Large Eddy Simulation (LES) are carried out to study fully developed pipe flow and fully developed channel flow for 360 Re = t based on friction velocity t u and channel width or pipe diameter. To model sub grid scales, one equation model is applied which solves an additional transport equation for sub grid scale energy. The large scales which carry the main energy of the flow are resolved by directly integrating the filtered,
time dependent Navier-Stokes equation. Also van driest-type wall damping has been used to resolve near wall zone .Beside the mean flow properties ,The turbulence statistics are computed and compared with the available experimental & DNS data. Agreements as well as discrepancies will be discussed in detail. To investigate the difference between fully developed turbulent flow in an axisymmetric pipe and a plane
channel geometry ;the present LES results in these cases are compared together.
