Abstract:
The Bionic Dolphin is an unusual type of underwater vehicle. External shape of this vehicle is very similar to a real dolphin. A Bionic Dolphin operates completely different from a conventional submersible vehicle in several key ways. While a standard submersible vehicle takes on ballast (water weight) in order to literally sink beneath the surface, a Bionic Dolphin uses its forward momentum and variable pitch diving planes to operate beneath the surface. It becomes the first lightest vehicle in comparison with the other underwater vehicles. In this article, we show the advantage of drag determination and hydrodynamic characteristics of this vehicle by using model test result(Isfahan University of Technology – Towing Channel ). The advantage of this diving method is that, allowing our vessels to achieve an acceptable level of freestyle performance. comparison of experimental drags and sinking behaviours of two vehicles with different weights, is useful to design a submersible vehicle and an underwater bionic submarine.
