A study on common quality problems in Al continuous roll casting process

The continuous roll casting process (CRC), for production Aluminium strip from melt, is now well known. It was introduced by the SCAL Company (Pechiney Ugine Kuhlmann Group) 60 years ago. The process consists of solidifying aluminum or aluminum alloys between the water-cooled twin rolls. Traditionally industrial twin roll casters operate at gauges 6 - 10 mm, depending on the type of caster and the final product requirements. Normally continuously casting products could not be utilized directly and should be further Hot/cold rolled for using in applications such as thermal insulations, fin stocks , semi-rigid containers , caps , household foils, lithographic plates, decorative products, etc.. However there are some defects in continuously casting products which cause later problems in final application. In this paper two groups of defects (Physical & Metallurgical) and their effects on final product quality have been investigated
