The Realization of Self-praise Speech Act in Persian and English: a Socio-Cognitive Linguistic Analysis

This study was a socio-cognitive linguistic analysis of realization of self-praise speech act in Persian and English. The participants of the study were 100 Persian and 100 English people with considerable variety in gender, age, education level and residency. The data gathering instrument was a 12-item researcher-made DCT. The gathered data were analyzed through SPSS. Totally, 6 sources of self-praise were recognized to which 13 strategies are used to self-praise. Furthermore, it was found that while some differences were found between using self-praise strategies, the differences between Persian and English speakers in using self-praise strategies were not in general meaningful
