Abstract:
An alternative option to install stand-alone power generation is to use a hybrid energy system. In this study, we propose the smart hybrid energy system (SHES) contains solar panel, wind turbine, generator, battery, power convertor and smart controller to supply the electricity demand for a particular house in Famagusta, Northern Cyprus. SHES is including smart controller to switch the system to generators using fossil fuel when our demand is more than our production or when our production is less than our demand. In addition, economic feasibility of SHES has been conducted to justify the project in aspect of economics. It is assumed that electricity usage for a house is about 20kWh/d with 833W peak load also $160161, $11584, $600 and $20000 as initial investment, annual saving, maintenance cost and residual cot, receptively. It is obtained that saving to investment ratio is 1.2 and simple payback period is 13.8 years which economically proof project for its analysis period (20 years). The HOMER has been used to analyze and simulate the system under the Famagusta environmental condition including solar radiation and average wind speed.
