State of the Art Methodologies in Domino Effect Risk Analysis

Although domino or cascading accidents are among the most destructive industrial accidents; the number of widely accepted methods for the assessment of such accidents is few. This paper is aimed to be a review of the studies undertaken on domino effect analysis in process industries in the last decades. For the ease of study, past contributions are classified under four main categories. The state of the art methodologies have been introduced in each category. Meanwhile the disadvantages or probable shortcomings in each field are discussed and finally the recent and future prospects in domino risk assessment are considered and analyzed.
