Abstract:

A new Chitosan derivative with higher amount of amine groups on the surface synthesized and characterized with FT-IR, CHNS, BET, XRD and TGA analyses. The aldol condensation of 1-heptanal and benzaldehyde was studied with this new Chitosan derivative, as the catalyst. It was observed that this new derivative was more active than parent polymer at the reaction condition. Furthermore, the reaction parameters, such as reaction temperature, molar ratio, amount of the catalyst and reaction time were studied and finally Jasminaldehyde was produced with 98% conversion and 90% selectivity at lower time (4.5 h). This novel heterogeneous catalyst offers several attractive advantages such as high catalyst activity, easy recovery and reusability of the catalyst.
