The evolution of Phenomenological approach to concepts of place and dwelling ( With comparative analysis of the viewpoints of Relph Edwards, Christian Norberg-Schulz and Juhani Pallasmaa)

Following the crisis of modern thought in architecture and urbanism, achieving a comprehensive understanding of the place and the dwelling has always been the main pointsof departure for experts. A recognition far from one-dimensional attitudes and extremist generalization, honouring aboriginal, cultural, mythological and human values to identify theplace and live there. The phenomenological approach in architecture based on the principles of the philosophy of phenomenology undoubtedly enjoyed growing popularity, and since the sixties decade (AD) onwards, numerous and diverse works by scholars and theorists in thefield of architecture have been left. Orientation and prioritization that theorists of this approach work based on it and assigns it as the basis for their phenomenological analysis provides basis of surprising and lack of alignment in a wide range of phenomenologicaldiscourse. Finding comprehensive way of phenomenological analysis that does not deviate from the principles of phenomenological thinking and is a departure point toward understanding the phenomenological approach is main aim of this investigation. Library method was used to collect data including databases and taking notes of books. Induction and deduction logics were applied in qualitative content analysis alternately. In this study byanalysing the votes of three theorists of the mentioned approach, in addition to providing a brief description of the evolution of the phenomenological approach, by analytical approach, it is trying to a clarification of the division literature phenomenological discourse century, as the main point of departure for the study was ahead. Among the main findings of current research, fundamental compliance of Pallasmaa phenomenological method based on perception and construction of environment method to analyse place in comparison with Schultz environment-oriented methods and Relph human-centred approach can be mentioned.
