Abstract:
Induction motors are the most commonly used motors in the industry and home application, due to their low cost and good performance. Speed identification is needed for the induction motor drives. Use of speed sensor in the induction motor drives is associated with problems such as, extra cost, reduced reliability, added mounting space. Therefore, sensorless induction motor drives have received much research attention in recent years. In the induction motor speed estimation techniques, speed is estimated using measured stator voltages and currents of the induction motor. The rotor speed for sensorless induction motor drives can be estimated by various techniques. They differ with respect to accuracy and sensitivity against induction motor parameter variation. A review of the different induction motor speed estimation techniques and their corresponding advantages and disadvantages is presented in this paper.
