Abstract:
The outstanding properties of B4C including high hardness, stiffness, young modulus, resistance to oxidation, corrosion and erosion, excellent electrical and thermal properties, chemical stability and low density make it suitable for industrial and strategic application. One of the deficient point of its application as structural material is low strength and fracture toughness. The most important problem for application of B4C is its low sinter ability and high temperature for sintering. Up till now many researches done in order to improve sintering condition by using different method and different additives and observed adding a little amount TiO2 nanoparticle has good effect on improving the properties of boron carbide ceramics. Therefore in this paper we investigate the effect of TiO2 nanoparticle on sintering behaviour and mechanical properties of B4C.
