Abstract:
Solid electrolytes, including polymers and inorganic compounds, have been studied to develop solid-state batteries with high safety and good reliability and a long life cycle over liquid systems. This priority refers to the absence of organic electrolyte solutions, which act as explosion hazard. However, the ionic conductivity of a solid electrolyte is lower than that of a liquid one, and the former shows a larger interfacial resistance with other solid components like electrode, etc. Inorganic ionic conductors; namely, solid electrolytes, have been extensively studied in two types of solids: crystal and glass. The ionic conductivity of glassy materials is, in general, higher than that of the corresponding crystals but remarkable enhancement can be realized when conductive crystals are precipitated from the glasses. The glass-ceramics have been widely investigated as electrolytes in lithium ion batteries due to possessing many advantages such as electrical conductivity, mechanical strength, and stability in ambient atmosphere. In order to increase the electrical conductivity of electrolytes, Nano materials are increasingly used.
