Abstract:
By tumble systems, seeded dispersion polymerization of methacrylate monomer (2-ethylhexyl methacrylate (EHMA), with PS seed particles in the presence of various saturated hydrocarbons in methanol /water media were obtained micron-sized, monodisperse hamburger-like composite particles. The effect of various polymerization conditions such as hydrocarbon type on the formation of these particles has been studied. It was found with increasing Carbon chain length hydrocarbons, PS was sandwiched in between two pieces of hydrocarbon/methacrylate polymer ‘‘breads’’ become thin. Another hand the particle shape from golf ball to polyhedral and disc like changed.
