Comparing the Inhibition and Activation Behavioral Systems and PersonalityTraits among Patients with Bipolar Disorder, Schizophrenia and a ControlGroup

The present study addressed the similarities and differences among patients with bipolardisorder, those with schizophrenia, and a control group with regard to the inhibition andactivation behavioral systems and personality traits. The present study examined 105 peopleincluding 34 patients with schizophrenia, 36 patients with bipolar disorder, and 35 controls whowere selected using convenience sampling. The present study found significant differences inpersonality traits and the BIS and BAS Systems among the current sample. There was asignificant relationship between the extreme levels (either high or low) of the sensitivity of theBAS and BIS as well as Neuroticism, Extraversion, Psychoticism and psychopathologicalsymptoms. Particularly, the combination of sensitivity of the BAS and BIS was related to thespecific type of psychopathology
