Abstract:
The metal uranium has got several oxides such as: Uranium dioxide (UO2), Diuraniumpentoxide (U2O5), Uranium trioxide (UO3), Triuraniumoctoxide (U3O8), and Uranyl peroxide (UO4). Each of these oxides has unique usages. Single crystals of various uranium oxides such as UO2, U4O9 and U3O8 were prepared by chemical transport reactions using halogen gases as transporting agents with a temperaturegradient of 1000 °C to 850 °C in closed tubes [1]. UO3 is the main material during the reprocessing of nuclear fuels. Fuel rods are dissolved in HNO3 to separate uranyl nitrate from plutonium and the fission products. Here, the pure uranyl nitrate is converted to solid UO3. After reduction with hydrogen to uranium dioxide, the uranium can be used in new MOX fuel rods. Various reactions have previously beenutilized in the preparation of uranium trioxide. These include the thermal decomposition of ammonium diuranate, uranium peroxide hydrate, uranyl nitrate and the UO3 hydrates, as well as oxidation of U3O8 and other uranium compounds. The purpose of this work is to investigate the effect of current density on Uranium trioxide morphology and the crystal growth of uranium trioxide nanoplates in a closed system,by an improved, fast, clean, and novel method for their preparation.
