Abstract:
The separation and isomerization of aromatic C8 mixtures (o-xylene (OX), m-xylene (MX) and p-xylene (PX)) in presence of catalysts is an interesting and promising way to produce p-xylene which is regarded as a valuable chemical intermediate and petrochemicalfeedstock. Catalytic properties, as well as conversion and selectivity toward p-xylene, plays a key role in industrial process of transformation of aromatic C8 cuts to p-xylene. The present contribution deals with recent advances in novel membrane technologies proposed for thefabrication of zeolite membranes along with an overview on other different catalysts that have the potential to be applied in this process.Different synthetic methods for several of well-known zeolite membranes such as ZSM-5, H-ZSM-5, Pt-SZM-5 and H-ZJM-4 have been discussed. After comparing the recent membranes and catalysts, reactors packed with permselective membrane-coated catalystparticles (core-shell structure) were found to have a promising potential to be used in xylene isomerization and separation process.
