Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to find out the impact of teaching Modal devices onintermediate Iranian EFL learners' writing. In this regard, two hypotheses were proposed. Atotal of 80 Iranian EFL learners were chosen. They were assigned to two control andexperimental groups.The selected material for both groups was new interchange book.Learners were asked to write three essays on predetermined topics given by the teacher. Theresults of comparing the pretest and the posttest showed that teaching Modal devices had abetter effect on writing; that is, the students in the experimental group had a betterperformance in this skill. Therefore, the two proposed hypotheses were safely rejected, and itwas concluded that teaching modal devices can push students to do better writingperformance.The study has implication for teachers as well as material developers tointroduce the modal devices in the teaching process.
