Compositional Analysis of PE Content in PE/PP Blends Using DSC

In this paper, experimental results on the utilizing differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) for the identification of polyethylene type and its content in polyethylene/polypropylene blends have been represented. The analytical approach has been performed by measuring fusion enthalpy of PE in the prepared blends having determined content of PE and PP therein. Consequently, a reference diagram of the content of particular PE versus measured fusion enthalpy was plotted and a specific equation was derived. It was observed that thermal and melting behavior of polyethylene is completely different with polypropylene in their blends and the visual comparison of approximate composition without using reference diagram is absolutely impossible
