Abstract:
Distributing demand in a transportation network is based on routechoice behavior models. Generally, it is assumed that drivers useroutes with minimum time. In real world, drivers may considermany factors other than travel times in congested networksespecially in metropolitan or two way congested transportationnetworks. Travel safety is a factor that one may consider in his/hertrip route choice. The main objective of this paper was toinvestigate influence of safety factors such as crash delays ondrivers’ route choice behaviors. Parameters that can cause to crashoccurrences were specified and their impacts were modeled atmacroscopic level using a simple statistical model. Then, anequilibrium based mathematical programming model for two waynetworks with symmetric link interactions was proposed. Themodel was tested for a simple network and results showed that howcrash delays can impact on route choice behaviors.
