Abstract:
This study is anchored in the field of interlanguage pragmatics. The aim was to probe into the efficacy of recast which is provided on pragmatic errors. The speech act targeted in thepresent study was refusals. To this aim, seven EFL learners who were at intermediate level of proficiency took part in the study. All of the participants engaged in eight session of roleplay. Three participants of the recast group received recast for their pragmatically erroneousutterances. The framework for recast was adapted from Fukuya and Zhang (2002). No feedback was provided for control group‟s errors. DCT was used to measure pragmatic development of the participants. The results of quantitative analysis revealed that recastgroup‟s gains in posttest were significantly more than those of the control group
