Abstract:
Malamud’ The Natural can be read as a necessary reference text for the study of humanism and ethical dilemma. This paper focuses on main character’s humanistic faults and ethical dilemma to show how suffering is a necessary consequence of love as a moral and ethical behavior. The aim of study is to clarify the status of human relationship between characters in Bernard Malamud’s The Natural. The fictional art of Bernard Malamud has vital relevance to the human rights issues. The study suggests whether humanism describes the quality of feeling, the type of orientation characteristic of Malamud’s novelistic affirmations. It argues that the protagonists of Malamud’s selected novels struggle hard to find an escape from the tangles of their lives. The more they try to get rid of the tangle, the more they find themselves entrapped in it. It is only after tasting the bitter experience of life that they realize its true meaning. There is naturally the emergence of Humanism
