Abstract:
Zirconium phosphate and it’s related compounds are layered structures, belongs to zeotype materials.
recently, they have attracted much interests in chemical researches; This was mainly due to their ion
exchange properties. Zirconium phosphate have two basic structures which are denoted by α- and γ-
zirconium phosphate. Both of these structures develops zeolite-like cavities in which the act of ion exchange
is possible. A related modified category of α-zirconium phosphate, are zirconium phosphonates, with general
formula of Zr(O3PR)2 in which R represent an organic group. In these materials, with correct choice of
organic moiety different chemical and stereo chemical behaviors could be expected. In this paper the
sequences of synthesis of a new modified structure of zirconium phosphonates with the formula of
Zr[(O3PCH2)2NC6H4CO2H], zirconium [N,N-di(phosphonomethyl)benzoic acid] is introduced. In this
structure the organic moiety is capable of coordination of metallic ions, and hence will be investigated for
ion exchange separations from kinetic and thermodynamic points of view.
