Abstract:

The most commonly used blue cationic dye in the coloration of acrylic fibers is the heterocyclic based azo dye C.I Basic Blue 41. Due to blue shade, brightness, and dyeing performance of C.I Basic Blue 41, theis dye has become economically important, motivating a substantial research effort, both in industry and academia. In the other hand, it has long been known that UV-vis, near IR absorption spectra of chemical compounds may be influenced by the surrounding environment and the solvents can cause change in the position, intensity, and shape of absorption bands. In this research the solvatochromic behavior of C.I Basic Blue 41 was systematically investigated in various solvents, covering wide range from aprotic and protic solvents by UV-vis spectra. The position, intensity and shape of absorption bands change with various solvent
