Abstract:

Benzofuranes are fused hetrocylic high conjocated molecules by their wellestablished valuable physiological and pharmacological properties. In addition, recent technical applications of polysubstituted benzofurans, including numerous fluorescent dyes used as retrograde tracers, fluorescent indicator conjugates, and OLEDs. In this work electrochemical process was used for convenient synthesis of new benzofuran derivative at room temperature in aqueous media. Electrochemical oxidation of 3,4-dihydroxycinnamic acid have been studied in the presence of acetoacetanilide as the nucleophile in aqueous solutions, using cyclic voltammetry. The results indicate that the orthoquinone derived from dihydroxy derivative participate in Michael addition reaction with acetoacetanilide convert to the corresponding benzofuran with good yield and high efficiency
