Abstract:

This study is aimed to investigate the relationship between forage yeild measurements and staellite-derived vegetation indices in rangelands of kakolak basin in charmahal-va-bakhtiari province, iran to do so, forage yeild was estimated using double-sampling method in 80 ranomly distributed plots which were consisted of annual grass astragalus susianus, ans astragalus verus. a small set of vegetation indices namely PVI, NDVI, SAVI and greenness indices generated through a radimetri cally and atmospherically corrected landsat image acquired on may 16, 2016 linear regression models were separately performed betweeen forage yeild and the values of vegetation indices in the location of plots. all regression models were significantly fitted p<0.01, however, SAVI model r=0.661 outper formed relative to other vegetation indices which was mainly to adjusting the effect of background soil over in an sparse vegetion cover of sampling plots. moreover, greenness in dex scored the lowest correlation with forage yeild. the results of this study would provide substantial information for adopt-ing the best possible strtegies in protecting rangeland landscapes of iran.
