Abstract:
In the recent years, the behavior of structures against earthquakes in earthquake-affected countries has beenhighly regarded. Hence, many studies have been conducted about the seismic behavior of the structuresagainst earthquake. Since near-field earthquakes exert more damaging effects to the structures, the studiesof near-field earthquakes are conducted more than far-field ones. Fling step is one of the destructive effectsof near-filed earthquakes happening due to its pulse-like and high period behaviors which are the maindestructive factors of structures. In this paper, the drift of the 5-storey special steel moment frame buildingstudied undergoing far and near-field earthquakes using nonlinear time history analysis. The results showthat the drift of the structure undergoing far-field earthquake effect with fling step is more than the nearfieldearthquake.
