Abstract:

Due to increasing growth of population in recent decades, immigration of villagers to cities, and on the other side, high cost and scarcity of land, and the need of modern societies for multifunctional constructions which try to aggregate commercial, administrative, recreational, educational, and residential functions in one place, constructing of tall buildings and vertical development and expansion of cities will be essential. On the other side, increase of consumption of fossil fuel and non-renewable energies, increase of pollutions and temperature of planet earth, and finally, its future consequences, have resulted in increment of the necessity to change energy sources and using sustainable plans especially in buildings which use the most amount of fossil fuels in modern societies. As a result, today’s environmental crises make it necessary to apply renewable energy sources in order to provide energy needs of these tall buildings. This paper aims to investigate renewable energies and related issues which can be used in tall buildings through climatic technologies, and also its feasibility in Urmia in a qualitative and analytic-descriptive method to determine that according to climatic potentials of Urmia, whether renewable energies can be used in designing of towers to provide at least a minimum amount of needed energy in order to meet consumptions of the building by climatic technologies or not. Firstly, through library studies and case studies (tall buildings which has used climatic technologies to exploit clean energies), and in the second stage by investigating the statistical information of meteorological organization of Urmia and the help of quantitative data and conducted analyzes on existing conditions, it can be concluded that renewable and clean energies of sun and wind can be applied in Urmia to use in tall buildings.
