Abstract:
Introduction:Nephrotic syndrome, or nephrosis, is defined as the presence of nephrotic-range proteinuria, edema, hyperlipidemia, and hypoalbuminemia)Silybummarianum is the scientific name for milk thistle (Mt) or St. Mary’s thistle is themixture of mainly three flavonolignans, silybin, silydianin and silychristin Methods:This article is asystematic review through library research and Internet search sites (sid.pubmed. Isc) the 65 articles were collected. Results: Nephrotic syndrome is a consequence of an imbalance between oxidant and antioxidant activity Silybummarianumhas properties on renal protection, hypolipidemic and anti-atherosclerosis activities, cardiovascular protection, prevention of insulin resistancethat might be effective for prevention of nephropathy-induced premature death in diabetic patients.Silymarin-treated group had at least a 50% decrease in urine albumin-creatinine ratio after 3 months of treatmentand reduced tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, and malondialdehyde in patients with diabetic nephropathy .Silybin hasstimulatory effect on kidney cellsby repairing and regenerating increasingvia protein and nucleic acid synthesis Conclusion:Withrespect to multiple side effects of immunosuppressive drugs especially in children who are in process of growing , it’s betterto consider treatments based on different causative pathophysiologies,Since one of the most important causes of nephrotic syndrome is diabetes mellitus and silymarin has hypoglycemic effects and also protects kidney from damages of high blood sugar .The role of oxidative stress in nephrotic syndrome has demonstrated so novel antioxidant therapies including silymarin should be considered .
