Abstract:
English language learners often have problems in comprehending the textbooks. Students’ motivation is a key factor in being successful. Yet because reading is an effortful activity that children often can choose to do or not to do, it also requires motivation.However, in order to effectively support reading motivation in the classroom, it is helpful to consider the research on reading motivation and engagement.So this study focused on the effect of teaching comprehension skills on reading motivation of EFL students. The data was collected from students at Gouyesh language institute located in Karaj. After several sessions of instruction, the researchers administrated the same reading motivation questionnaire as the post-test to both experimental and control groups. The data was obtained from pretest-posttest analyzed by running independent sample t-test. Finally, the results of the analysis of the data revealed that teaching comprehension skills enhanced reading motivation of the subjects
