Protective Effects of Carvacrol and Thymol in hypertrophied rat hearts

Intactanimalsservedasthecontrolgroup(Ctl). Hgroup: Toinducehypertrophymodel, animalsunderwentabdominalaortabanding.Car25+Hgroup Thy10+Hgroup AgroupofanimalstreatedsimultaneouslywithCarvacrolandThymol(Car+Thy).The superoxidedismutase (SOD)activity,Malondealdehyde(MDA)levelandthefreeradicalscavengeringactivity(DPPH)alsowereestimatedbybiochemicaltests. intheHgroup,systolicanddiastolicbloodpressurewereincreasedsignificantlyincomparisonwithCtlgroup(P˂0.001)•Intreatmentgroup sthebloodpressureandtheheartweighttobodyweightratioweredecreasedincomparisonwithHgroup.•.CarvacrolincombinationwithThymoldecreasesANPandBNPmRNAlevelssignificantlyincomparisonwithHgroup.•InCar+HandCar+Thygroups, theSODactivitywereincreasedsignificantlyincomparisonwithHgroup.•tissueMDAlevelwasdecreasedradically comparedtothegroupHinalltreatmentgroupsandDPPHradicalscavengingactivitywasincreasedinThy+HandCar+ThygroupscomparedtothegroupH.•Conclusions:administrationofCarvacrolincombinationwithThymoldecreasesmyocardialhypertrophymarkersviaaugmentationofantioxidantcapacityinratsfollowingtheabdominalaorticbanding.
