Abstract:

The highlight purpose of this study lies on a Lyotardian applied on Bald Soprano (1948) by Eugene Ionesco. It specifically focuses on language game the Lyotardian method. In another word, it investigates the metanarrative and language games between Eugene Ionesco’s characters. The Bald Soprano demonstrates six characters; Mr and Mrs Smith, Mr and Mrs Martin, Mary (the maid), and the fire chief who pass the time with conversations which made on their metanarrative and language game. Since the play centres on the series of dialogue game which covers their social bond, the present study attempts to find whether the characters find their language game or not. To Lyotard, each society lies on language not around the technologies because language is part of the communication. Moreover, from Lyotard point of view, the society never reaches to reality by meta-narrative. In addition to this, meta-narrative is incomplete and prejudicious. In this regard, this study attempts to find whether Ionesco’s characters in their language ( dialogues) obtain the reality and the way of life or not.
