Abstract:

Strategies are quite facilitative in getting, storing and retrieving language knowledge. Researchers have studied the impact of rehearsal on different language skills. This study sought to examine the effect of rehearsal strategy on speaking fluency of Iranian intermediate EFL learners. To conduct this study, an experimental research design wasused and two language institutes were randomly selected in Yasouj. A validated placement test was administered and 40 intermediate language learners were selected and were randomly assigned to a control group and an experimental group. A speaking pre-test was administered, the results of which showed that the two groups were not significantly different in terms of their speaking fluency. Instruction in rehearsal for the experimental group and placebo for the control group were provided. Following the treatment, a speaking post-test was administered to the groups. The finding was that rehearsal had a statistically significant effect on speaking fluency of intermediate EFL learners
