Abstract:

We investigate the existence of ion-acousticshock waves in a five component cometary plasma consistingof positively and negatively charged oxygen ions, kappa described hydrogen ions, hot solar electrons, andslightly colder cometary electrons. The KdVB equation hasbeen derived for the system, and its solution plotted fordifferent kappa values, oxygen ion densities, as well as thetemperature ratios for the ions. It is found that the amplitudeof the shock wave decreases with increasing kappavalues. The strength of the shock profile decreases withincreasing temperatures of the positively charged oxygenions and densities of negatively charged oxygen ions.
