Investigation on Deficiency of Reinforced Concrete Columns Concealing Drainage Pipe abstract
An investigation was conducted to assess the ductility and performance of reinforced concrete columns concealing drainage pipe based on moment-curvature relationship. Two cross-section sizes 222 × 222 mm2 and 022 × 022 mm2 were selected and for each one the moment-curvature relationship of a solid section and a section with an embedded two inches pipe (outside diameter 8205 mm) were obtained and compared. It is shown that the presence of pipe changes the overall behavior and ductility of elements and the extent of this change depends on the level of axial force. It is also shown that the balanced load of column may be affected due to the drainage pipes which itself makes the tension control region in interaction diagram of the column smaller
