Abstract:

Optimization of vetiver oil extraction using supercritical carbon dioxide as solvent are studied in this paper. In order to do optimization, vetiver oil equilibrium constant between solid and supercritical phase was determined using the criterion of the equality of fugacity for each compound in both phases at equilibrium. The optimal conditions to obtain the highest vetiver oil yield were a pressure of 167 (bar) and a temperature of 307.75 (k). In addition, the influence of supercritical fluid flow rate and particle diameter on the optimal conditions was studied using analytical method. The results indicated that optimum pressure decrease with particle diameter and increase with solvent flow rate but optimum temperature is independent of particle diameter and solvent flow rate.
