Abstract:
The effect of important parameters on the tray point efficiency in distillation columns is studied here. A new model is proposed for point efficiency using genetic programming and based on experimental tray point efficiency data for three binary systems, methanol/water, isopropanol/water and methylcyclohexane/toluene. The correlation was then used to study the effect of different parameters present in the model on tray point efficiency. Comparison with experimental data demonstrated the new model is well capable of generating accurate tray point efficiency estimates with an average relative error of 1.85 percent.
