Abstract:
Single-use packing articles made of carry-bag polystyrene (EPS) are currently used to serve and pack a variety food and non-food products. Recently, there have been efforts to develop and commercialize materials from renewable resources such as starch to replace EPS. Starch based foams are, however, brittle and sensitive to water and thus require expensive coating steps when exposure to cold or hot liquids is required.Biodegradable starch-based extruded products and methods of manufacturing those products are provided. In particular, extruded starch products processed by compression, stretching or compression provide excellent flexibility, pliability, dimensional stability. In this article, compare high amylase and low amylase starch-based, and unmodified and modified starch-based films and resiliency, according to the results low amylase modified starch-based films are preferable.
