To reduce the incidence of these infections, the most effective, easiest and least costly way is hand hygiene by the care provider personnel. The present study was conducted with the aim of comparing the use of alcohol and soap solution for hand hygiene in personnel employed in educational centers of Tabriz.Materials and Methods: Hospital staff included 4 groups of doctors, nurses, medical assistants and lab and radiology personnel. After contact with the patient, after contact with the environment and after contact with the discharge, they were randomly observed. Results: Hand hygiene compliance rate was 35.3% (21.1% hand wash and 14.2% disinfection). The highest rate of personal hygiene was in the nursing staff with 51.8% (29.4% hand wash and 22.4% hand disinfection) and the lowest was in the other staff (lab, radiology, physiotherapy and workers), 37.2% (11.3% hands and 15.9% hand disinfection). Conclusion: The compliance of hand washing is greater than the use of alcoholic solution. Although hands rubbing with alcoholic base liquid requires less cost, less time and more convenient use, low acceptance this could be due to religious beliefs about alcohol consumption And the feeling of not cleansing the hands with these materials.
