Abstract:

The presence of lead metal in aquatic environments has been a big problem due to their toxic nature and environmental health threats. Even small amount of lead in water resources is so dangerous. In this study we are going to test adsorption potential of kaolinite clay for removal of lead ions from aqueous solution. Many parameters influence the adsorption capacity of kaolinite. Effect of concentration of Pb has been investigated. Adsorption of lead ions using kaolinite was tested in different temperatures and it has been recognized that the adsorption capacity of lead ions is increased with increasing temperature. The influence of PH of aqueous solutions on the adsorption capacity was studied and it was found that lead ions concentration increases with decreasing PH in the acidic solutions. The mineralogical composition of kaolinite mineral was determined using XRD (X- Ray Diffraction). Using Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (AAS) we are be able to measure the changes in the amount of lead concentration. These results showed that Kaolinite has great potential to remove lead metal species from industrial wastewater.
